The 2012 European World Travel Awards Ceremony, held in Quinta do Lago, consecrated Hotel Quinta do Lago, Portugal and the Algarve with prestigious awards

Since 2004, Hotel Quinta do Lago has received thirty five nominations and won seven prestigious World Travel Awards, including Portugal’s Leading Resort, Portugal’s Leading Golf Resort, Portugal’s Leading Spa Resort and has now its first international award, Mediterranean's Leading Hotel, recognising the hotel’s never-ending pursuit of providing unforgettable services and experiences that delight the demanding guests it receives.

In this year’s ceremony, hosted at Quinta do Lago, on the 6th of October, Hotel Quinta do Lago was also nominated in 5 more categories: Europe’s Leading Golf Resort, Portugal’s Leading Family Resort, Portugal’s Leading Golf Resort, Portugal’s Leading Resort and Portugal’s Leading Spa Resort.

Portugal and the Algarve also reigned supreme in this year’s awards: the former won the Europe’s Leading Golf Destination award whilst the Algarve won the accolade for the Best European Beach Destination.

The World Travel Awards (WTA) launched in 1993 to acknowledge and recognise excellence in the global travel and tourism industry. Now celebrating its 19th anniversary, the World Travel Awards are hailed as the ‘Oscars of the travel industry' by the global media  and regarded as the very highest achievement that a travel product could hope to receive.

As per the last 15 years, Hotel Quinta do Lago, a member of the Leading Hotels of the World since 1988, hosted its annual Amateur Golf Challenge this past week. This year’s event was particularly successful as guests of all ages, from over 5 countries, spent 7 days perfecting their swing and competing on Quinta do Logo’s championship golf courses, followed by sophisticated and entertaining social events in the evening.

Participants began their days with a luxurious champagne breakfast, discussing their technique with fellow competitors.  Throughout the week, guests were given the opportunity to participate in golf clinics and practice rounds on prestigious golf courses, like the Vale do Lobo Royal and Monte de Rei, with a golf professional, Mr. Peter Lester, always on hand. The tournament’s official rounds were played on the Quinta do Logo’s award winning golf courses: the Quinta do Lago North, South and Laranjal.  On their day off from golf, guests were welcomed to participate, along with some of the hotel’s management, in a workshop to learn and practice some Latin dance steps with the help of 3 professional dancers.

The end of the tournament was marked with a glamorous gala event, within an elegantly decorated ballroom. The night began with a sophisticated cocktail, followed by the announcement of the winners and an awards ceremony. Afterwards, a world-class 6 course menu, a spectacular Latin dance show and a 3 member band that provided endless hours of dancing.

The Hotel announced next year’s tournament dates and many participants were quick to reserve their place amongst next year’s list of players. The success of this event along with the continuous return of past guests is due greatly upon the unique services offered by the hotel and its ability to exceed the expectations of the most discerning guests year after year.
